Clint Holmes Preview of "Remembering Bobby Short"

Hats off to the fantastic preview of the impending "Remembering Bobby Short" show performed at the Stirling Club Las Vegas for it's members by Clint Holmes and company. New Yorkers get ready!

Clint's show will be at your world renowned venue,  The "Cafe Carlyle" at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City that Bobby Short helped to make famous. Shows will be peformed begining Oct 11th thru the 29th Tues-Sat at 8:45 pm (no show on Oct 15th).

Folks you are in for a delicious treat as Clint's preview was stunning! I have often referred to this man's heavy weight talent and this preview only served to elevate my opinion. Clint's beautiful wife "Kelly Clinton Holmes" will also slip into town and will be peforming for one night at a high brow venue. Kelly told me some time ago which venue but, I'm not kidding, the older I get my feet seem to keep gravitating toward Dimentia or some sort of memory impairment, ha! I apologize to Kelly and to you as her show too will be a  most enchanting and entertaining evening that I'm sure you will not want to miss. If I see Kelly this weekend I will update the venue, date and time for you.

Regarding my performing again on Tuesday evenings at the Stirling Club, I can only say it has been a joy. I have performed for very small audiences and some capacity audiences too which the latter is rare for a Tuesday evening. I love the audience participation as I promote interactiveness with them regarding songs they would like to hear. They have been vocal, alive, joyful, dancing and just plain happy.
Folks if I didn't know it before, I am certain now, I live for this... I rarely take breaks and just sing my heart out for them and conversely they show their love and appreciation for my talent and effort to please them... I just love it!!! All is well.

And by the way, I have heard your requests for a Blog that is inclusive of photos and video, etc. This "More News" feature was never intended to be a Blog but you ladies and gentlemen tell me that is what it is so I have heeded your communications and have already created a more formal Blog and I just need a little house keeping done with the Registrar to get it published in it's proper form, however, if you wish to see a sneek preview then visit http://glennradcliffe.blogspot.com/ ...

Rounding Back Into Form

Entertaining/traveling can become a very challenging propositon... That is why after many years engaged in such I decided to exit as I increasingly struggled with feelings this was becoming an exercise more akin to a job.

I've always felt and promised myself if doing something I loved changed so dramatically where it became work, I would exit. And so I did...

However, my love for entertaining has withstood the ultimate test of time as over the years of abstinence, as the scales of passion slowly but surely began tilting toward reengagement, I finally on a limited basis, started anew.

It has been 3 weeks now of one night a week performances. How would I really feel about performing again relative to the mindset I once occupied that I would do this for free? And how would I negotiate thoughts of rigorously believing it is more appropriate for my person to surrender to passion rather than the pursuit of money?

Well last night I received my answers...

Most seasoned entertainers know a big part of the aforementioned questions can sometimes revolve around dealing with people. Last night that issue leaped to the forefront, as before I began my show, the General Manager informed me that a couple made a complaint that I was only singing songs for about 15 seconds of duration.
What an outrageous proposition that was!!! The most aggregiously awful entertainer wouldn't engage in such nonsense. So obviously there were other motivations afoot...

Nevertheless, the receival of such folly just before one's show could challenge motivation although recalling my history of always being voted tops and rarely in receipt of complaints helped to negate creeping negativity.

What happened?

Well I was supremely delighted that I did not begin my show attempting to overcome a hoarse voice of which I have struggled with in Las Vegas for years... I did not venture outside and drank a great organic tea called Yogi Honey Lemon Throat Comfort for most of the day. I highly recommend this tea for you singers out there.

With my voice approaching some normalcy this served to somewhat mitigate the aforementioned contrived complaint. The presence of a few very appreciative audience members greatly aided in elevating my mindset to the entertainer I have always been. Talented, personable, respectful and always seeking and finding a way to include my audience as important participants in my show.

The results...

I started just before 7:00 pm and after 10:00 pm I heard something very familiar to me... An audience member said "Glenn are you aware that you havn't taken a break"? Wow!!! There it was for me. Confirmation!!!

Throughout my career people have dubbed me the 2nd hardest working man in show business (for those of you who are unaware, James Brown was always known as the hardest working man in show business) as I would never take a break because I was consummed with passion and love for what I was engaged in.

I would sing just as hard for one person as I would for a thousand. People would always tell me "when you sing you smile"... As an elegant consequence I could always turn around the worse rooms as the word spread about my shows.

I am attempting to create a business on Tuesday nights at the Stirling club where there was very little and I will succeed... Why? Passion coupled with talent and experience will always spread the word. But more importantly, the word has spread to my soul as I have reaffirmed who I am and what my singular purpose was always intended to be... A hard working, passionate, attentive, stylish and warm entertainer... And further confirmation of that was, a tip jar I didn't bring was filled to the top by appreciative, having fun audience members who complimented me verbally and with their hard earned currency as well... But the currency I loved most was their good time.

Folks, I am very fortunate to now have a stamp on my absolute purpose. I am truly a lucky and appreciative man... I hope one day my show and or records (as I will absolutely record again) reach you too...

Folks please seek, locate and confirm who you are and strive to, as much as possible, to just do who and what you really are...

Stay tuned...

Pierre's Table 21 Dinner

Last night I attended the last presentation of Pierre's Table 21 Dinner at the Stirling Club Las Vegas. It was a deliciously joyful yet a sad night for all.

Pierre, your dinners were an event that I highly looked forward too and we will all feel some emptiness without you. Best of luck with the next leg of your journey.

The Stirling Club and the famous Chef Charlie Palmer are ending their association which also means we are loosing Patrick our great Sommelier as well as other key personel. I would like to thank all of you for your exquisite contribution to the success of the Stirling Club...

On a higher note is was great to sing a couple of songs with the great Ronnie Rose last night... As I have previously noted, Ronnie Rose is one of the most consummate indefatigable pros I have ever witnessed. Folks this guy is great !!! And an old school gentleman too...

Thanks Ronnie for allowing me to share your stage, I highly appreciate it...

The Ying and Yang of Entertaining

I'd like to recount to you the various polarities of being an Entertainer. When I was a "Guest Entertainer" aboard "The Love boat" these two events may open the eyes of non-performers...

I had a very large and enthusiastic audience one night on the Love Boat in a multi-deck open venue which was the guts of the "Sun Princess". All traffic flow led and went through the Atrium when right in the middle of singing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" my show was disturbed from the deck below with a bunch of loud, rude and obnoxious men from Italy who decided to high jack my show without any consideration for the other passengers. Lovers and mates were slow dancing and enjoying the evening but I could know longer hear myself and it brought that performance to an abrupt end.

They didn't stop there as they then paraded directly through my show singing loudly like drunken sailors who just reached shore. Well one of them whom I had previously noticed would come by my riser (small elevated stage) nightly and stop in front of the stage and just stare at me... He and they did so this night after brazenly disrupting the show. As a very seasoned Entertainer I already knew what was on this person's mind. He fashioned himself a Singer and likely wanted to sing.
But when he turned to his buddies and said "that guy can't sing"!!! He was soundly rebuked by his buddies who retorted "are you out of your mind"? And scoffed at his remarks...

Well now, is it time for a teaching moment? Ha!!! Hee, hee, hee...

I decided to invite him up to sing... He requested to sing "Unchained Melody"... After locating a key for him (I wanted to give him the best opportunity to sound good). I began playing and he sang his heart out... Or so he thought... Well the audience gave him a good applause and then he shot me a look of disdain with a generous portion of arrogance as if he had just proven a point....

Hmmmmm. I thought "don't  mess with "father nature"!!! Ha!

Now folks, you and I both understand what you mostly do when you're an audience member as one of yours steps up to the mic to sing. You will applaud and usually support them even if they sounded like "Carl Lewis" (the great Olympian) when he butchered our National Anthem like know other... Ummm "Rosie O'donnell may beg to differ. Hee hee...

Well apparently this person was not cognizant of this protocol. So it was time for a teaching moment...

I have never done this before but I couldn't help myself this time. "Unchained Melody" is one of my best songs. I have a 3 octave range and can hit some 2nd tenor notes from baritone lows that are off the chart. I kill that song! So I decided to again sing this classic song while Mr. Rudness was standing right next to me and while he was bathing in what he thought was his moment of glory.

As I worked my way through the song with dynamics, sincerity and phrasing he never dreamed of, all of which was to set up the dramatic ending with a note higher than the "Righteous Brothers" served to stun and overwhelm him... My peripheral vison had already perceived his uneasiness, shock and awe.  Then the crowd confirmed his greatest fears, whom he incorrectly thought was on his side, by giving me a thunderous standing ovation and many began yelling out "now that's a pro"!!! "That's a pro"!!!

I had given the audience (of which we were on a love fest) a way to pay back his rudeness of me and them... And so they did.

He was crushed... He deserved it but I won't revisit his humiliation any further.

One of my best most memorable moments, however,  was also on the Love Boat in this same venue... On this night the crowd was huge when this older gentleman pushed in this very lovely older well dressed lady in a wheelchair... Everyone was dressed exceptionally well as it was "Formal Night"... But there was a charm and graciousness this woman possessed. They were such a sweet couple so I immediately facially acknowledged them and flashed them a warm smile. They were appreciative and reciprocated.

They obviously new another couple there who later in the show informed me that this night was their "Golden Anniversary"... So I decided to dedicate a song to them. I chose "Anniversary by "Tony, Tony, Tony"... Now I was certain they were not familiar with this group but I knew this beautiful song was universal... So after learning their names I informed the audience of this momentous occasion... The classy audience extended them a resounding applause of recognition...

So I began the song... The words, feeling and intent are nothing short of beautiful. In a previous post I alluded to my ability to create substitute lyrics on the fly and on this night I was compelled to do so... She was dressed in red so of course she became "The Lady in Red" as I fashioned lyrics around that theme and rejoined the original lyrics intermittently thus keeping the original intent of the song alive...

Well folks, some say a miracle took place during that song. Her husband did something amazing as she motioned him to come and stand in front of her wheel chair. After his compliance was activated what then took place compelled him, the audience and myself to a state of shock when she requested he lift her to stand... He initially did not wish to comply but she was insistant. The entire audience was trained on this couple at this moment and gasped when she stood up overcoming significant struggle on both their parts. She stood boldly but unassuredly in front of her wheel chair with his tender and loving support while her arms were wrapped around him and her face was smiling brightly, adoringly and gayly. She proudly evidenced her conquest which obviously transmitted thankfulness, delight and the glory of love for all to witness... What a moment in time!!!

I quickly discovered that she had not stood on her legs for many many years...
I had tears in my eyes and so did many others in the audience. They must have applauded continuously for 5 minutes or more... They too knew this was an unforgettable moment in time...

I went over to her and kissed her hand as she had tears of joy flowing and a smile that could have melted Capone...

Folks I have enjoyed many wonderful moments, none of which surpasses this one and have had to endure my share of very humiliating moments too... But folks, such is the "Ying and Yang" of being an Entertainer...

Nothing in this world, for good or bad, is more important to me than love, romance and the creation and nurturing of unforgettable moments in time...

Lake Las Vegas

For me nothing tops the comforts of true friends. Friday my best male friend of over 40 years and his wife came into town from Los Angeles and stayed at the Ravella (formerly the Ritz Carlton) in the fabulous Lake Las Vegas Resort. Lake Las Vegas is  perhaps the closest approximation of Florence this country has to offer...

The evening weather was cooperative and served us well for the many enjoyments of outside activities in The Village of upscale shops, restaurants, casino and bars. Our unguarded conversation and rememberances unfettered by diplomacy, as only true friends can navigate, was very magical and served for renewal and refreshment.

Well if you have come to know me, music must have played a large role at this wonderful moment in time... And indeed it did. Upon my arrival I met my friends in the hotel lobby bar and they had a wonderful duo performing there. They were really good and buttresses my assertion that top to bottom know other city I have ever been in has more outstanding musical talent than Las Vegas. They covered Jazz, Pop, Blues and R&B exceptionally well. In fact they executed guitar riffs that would have made B.B. King's "Lucille" a momentary observer... Ha!

They asked me to come up and perform with them and it was a pleasure. We peformed some "Temptations and Marvin Gaye" like we had been performing together for years. They were complete pros. By the time we completed our songs we had a crowd... My kind of fun. Thank you gentlemen.

After enjoying a delicious meal with great wine, music and laughter, Rol and I (his wife retired) decided to stroll through the beautiful "Village" as we happened upon this great cigar bar with outdoor seating... This quaint, very European establishment also offered a young Entertainer who had a Karaoke set up... There were no tables open but a party decided a timely departure which we appreciated... This young singer ask me if I knew Lannie Counts and of course I did as I had previously performed with him at the Stirling Club (see previous post). I was extended an invitation to sing and chose the safest of songs "My Girl". This beautiful people type crowd loved it and was very complimentary... What a lovely venue.

Rol and I strolled a little more as the show ended and decided to seat ourselves at another outstanding venue's large fire pit with the most comfortable outdoor sofas one can imagine. We were soon joined by a "Britt" who had seen me perform at the Ravella and thought I was very special... Again, the stars, gentle breezes, beautiful people and marvelous conversation was intoxicating.

To end this enchanting stress busting evening, Rol and I decided to "Moonwalk" a few yards to the lake front (you don't believe that do you? Ha!)... We sort of meandered our way down there and took residence at a table adjacent to the water... We enjoyed our time together and discussed events and times that comprised our 40 year relationship...

Thanks old buddy, it was a pleasure to see you again...

Daddy's Home

Last Saturday was a wonderful pleasure singing the old classic by "Shep and the Limelites" "Daddy's Home" at the Stirling Club... And many thanks to Mr. Lannie Counts for inviting me up to sing with him during his equisite show...

Later we all enjoyed two great pros! A husband and wife team who happens to own the fantastic venue in Las Vegas " The Bootlegger" restaurant and lounge.
Not only does the Bootlegger serve great Italian Food but it also has outstanding live entertainment... Approximately a year ago I had the pleasure of dueting "Stand By Me" on stage with the great "Ronnie Rose" who is a distinct favorite Entertainer in Las Vegas... I later performed "My Girl".

Folks if you are in Las Vegas I highly suggest you stop in for wonderful food and entertainment. Oh and on Monday nights the fabulous "Kelley Clinton" has a production well worth seeing... Wow is she a busy lady!

Stay tuned...

Mark Giovi

I've touted the Stirling Club Las Vegas as the premiere private club in America and perhaps the world... Friday evening buttresses that impression.

Wow, what a wonderful kick off to the evening Pierre's Table 21 Dinner provided... I have extensively covered the delight, value, comradarie and epicure sensation Pierre's very special events provide... Thank you again Pierre for allowing us to experience such an intoxicating evening with your seemless unparalleled dinning consistency.

As many of us transitioned to the Piano Lounge the evening was enhanced by another magnificent performer in the person of Mr. Mark Giovi. There is a new show on television entitled "The Voice"... It's a very good format that features, in contest, some very good singers. Well Mr. Giovi could win that contest because he is the voice!

He is another in the now long lines of performers gracing the Stirling Club with talent far and away above most of the so called stars who are presently recording for major labels. Speaking of contests, ha, there is no contest between the two... The voices, style and gifts these entertainers demonstrate shows where the real pool of talent should be continually accessed to replenish and incubate the music industry going forward...  In my best hip hop vernacular "I'm just sayin"... Hee hee.

Mark you are smooth and very gifted and thank you for allowing me to perform a Marvin Gaye duet with you... And if I heard you correctly, look for Mark on tonight's "Billboard Music Awards"... Goodluck Mark.

What an incredible evening... Stay tuned.

Lannie Counts

One of the reasons I love the Stirling Club and believe it is the best private club in the world are the Entertainers featured there... Yes it's physical facilities are unsurpassed and it's concept is stylish and bold incubated by the very nature of Las Vegas but transcends this audacity by providing it's members an oasis of intimate shielding from the vagaries of it's location.

A recent contributor to my assessment is Mr. Lannie Counts, a gifted, talented, Pro who is also a gentleman... He is a jewel of an Entertainer brought in by Kelly Clinton whose repertoire is vast and surgically precise as it touches the most pertinent musical genres.

Over the last few weeks I've had the pleasure of listening, learning and performing with this gentleman. It has been a great pleasure and last night as we performed "Just My Imagination" together, our harmonies at times were as tight as the "Emotions" (a 3 sister group known for their great harmonies)... Some in the audience were surprised that we had never attempted such before which is a testament to this man's superior talent. And by the way, thanks Lannie for your subtle lyric aid as again, a song I have performed close to a thousand times over the years I struggled with remembering the lyrics but the all star musicians and the pro this gentleman is we just adlived (Singers; never let the audience know the lyrics are escaping you) until I was back on track and ultimately the song was enhanced because in my opinion one of the greatest assets an Entertainer can possess is the ability to create and write songs on the fly under duress in the moment... Fortunately I long ago learned the value of that gift as I routinely would create lyrics on the spot as I tailored them to a specific audience member.

This man is a gentleman and a pro (awesome on "Unchained Melody") and Lannie thank you for your compliments to me. When a pro such as yourself says to another Entertainer "your voice is an instrument" for us that is major respect.

I immensely enjoy being entertained by you, learning from you and performing with you. And you too have my utmost respect... You are a PRO!!!

Cruising

Well folks for some of you it's time for vacation considerations... As a former "Guest Entertainer" for the top cruise lines in the world and frequently aboard the second "Love Boat" the Sun Princess I endeavor to offer you my musings.

I've seen much of the world while entertaining aboard some of the greatest ocean liners afloat and from the privileged vantage point of experiencing beneficial multiple visits to these exotic locations which rendered a much deeper appreciation or critical analysis if you will.

My first cruise as a Guest Entertainer was aboard the Love Boat cruising the Mexican Riviera... I venture to say it was my most enjoyable over all experience but not for the reasons you might surmise... The ports of call were nice but I've since learned something from passengers that may or may not surprise you. The most important element in cruising is without a doubt the entertainment...

I havn't entertained at sea for many years and still to this day I receive many emails and well wishes from the joy of numerous passengers who say their experience with my shows were the highlite of their cruise and I was always voted the #1 Entertainer on every cruise I ever performed on... Folks, I'm told I'm pretty good but we also had a dynamite band out of Southern California and a great intimate and rocking disco on the Love Boat too. Those cruises were a party. Not the manufactured parties from a certain Cruise Line who promoted their ships as the "Fun Ships"... Oh, I performed on one of them so I know of what I speak. What I am talking about was great music, ports of call, good food and great weather.

But overwhelmingly I am told and later experienced the truth of this admonition from experienced cruisers that the entertainment is mostly what they recall and was the arbiter of the overall success or failure of the cruise.

Folks I can not tell you how many times over the years that passengers told me point blank the level of entertainment (not necessarily in the showrooms) was inadequate and that I was a joyful anomaly. It even got to the point where many appreciative fans said I need to exit the cruise business altogether as I was to good for this venue and was wasting my talent... A seeming contracdiction but was a well appreciated display of heartfelt affection for me...

Oh perhaps presently for those of you who have not experienced my shows, you might be considering thoughts of egotistical leanings by myself... Ha!!! I wouldn't blame you. But you would be time travel away from the truth regarding the message and conveyance of information I am attempting to impart.

When I retired from cruising I had the privilege of enjoying some of the many relationships I had forged around the globe one of which was and owner of a very successful travel agency which afforded me the opportunity to cruise as a passenger at the top of the food cruise chain, the "Grand Suite"... What a pleasurable experience but guess what ? I too learned what all those experienced cruisers had been telling me... The entertainers were flat out weak !!! And I am being kind... You spend a lot of time on the ship, especially the sea days... It can be boring so it's natural to look forward to great entertainment... Absent that, well for some it is not forgiveable.

Being an entertainer I rarely got a chance to view the other entertainment myself because we were working similiar hours but later as I began cruising as a passenger, wow, I longed for great entertainment. And I was thinking, boy
Mr Romantic would be delicious about now... Ha!!!

However, absent that, the ports of call become paramount. I entertained in all the top regions. You may or may not be aware that the Carribean is the #1 cruise market in the world followed by what may be a shocker to some, Alaska is the #2 market. I will be brief with my opinion which is based upon multiple cruise contracts in both those markets and suggest if you are considering a cruise and have not experienced multiple markets yet, bypass both for the Mediteranean... The intergration of history and beauty is not to be overlooked... The Carrribean is overated and in many cases quite unfriendly and flat out disappointing... Alaska, well glacier calving and seeing a moose. Humm I'll leave that to your taste... Ha!!!

Perhaps Europeans may require a different adventure. I can understand that. But for the rest of you, take my advice, pay me now or pay me later as is said... Ha!!!
Save your coin until you can cruise the Med... You will appreciate my advice.

Itineraries in the Med ? The French Riviera is not to be missed. I do fashion myself in many ways a Francofile. So it was to my great surprise how much I loved Spain. Barcelona is a magnificent large city and Malaga, the city of the early years of Picasso, was quite quaint as I liken it to the Hollywood Hills surrounded by the Med... Simply enchanting. The most beautiful and photographic port of call in the Med for me was Portofino... The history of Rome I found to be overwhelming. Being in Monaco for Formula races was an experience I cherish. Not to mention having croissants in the casino complex alfresco while people watching in beautiful May spring weather. I can go on and on, e.g., doing same in Cannes while attending the famous film festival. Or purchasing a fine Port Wine in Madeira... The Med is my favorite place on earth, however, the  most beautiful of my travels where land meets sea and mountains is still
Rio de Janiero, but that is another story I need to tell...

So folks I have attempted to capsulize and impart some of the benefits of my cruising experience for several years in a way that may influence your travel and or cruising considerations... I hope this endeavor has met with success and further, I'd like to say what ever floats your boat (hee hee) I wish you enjoyment and satisfaction with your choices...

Bon voyage

Michelle Johnson

Folks, you have not heard me mention Michelle Johnson... It is time.
In view of my immediately present imbibement, as I have just departed the Stirling Club, I am endeavoring to foreclose routine which would constitute delay... That is, a clear mind vacated by any alcoholic impressions...

This talent deserves immediacy... Do I dare reapproach risking boredom from my observations of talent I am witnessing in Las Vegas and primarily at the Stirling Club ad nauseum ? Absolutely !!! As I only comment on talent that moves me... Michelle Johnson moved me.

Her performance tonight of "Moon River" was, excuse me, composed by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini and won the 1961 Academy Award for best original song and made such a great hit by Andy Williams, was the very best (far and away) rendition I have ever heard... Sorry Andy, yours was great, but...

Her vocals are as clean as white sheets in and elite Army Barracks... Her range is so significant it suggests how our early adventurous explorers must have felt when they discovered the earth really wasn't flat. Her dynamics were captivating, intriguing, sensuous, definite and untouchable by most vocalists... Folks, this woman is superb... A very gifted talent. And as this extreme talent bathes you, it rejects arrogance by constantly inviting your enjoyment with a consistent smile...

If there is a definition for perfection, it would certainly be inclusive of her performance of "Moon River"...

Thank you Michelle and thank you Mrs Kelly Clinton for continuing to book such great great talent at the wonderful Stirling Club... I salute a job well done...

And congrats to Regi Brown and Gail Steel (Steele?) who with Michelle and Kelly gave us astounding solo and united performances for a night to remember... Folks these are talented ladies... I will have more about the talents of Gail and her super musician husband who performs in the Stirling Club band shortly...

I would like to comment on several very talented couples in and about Las Vegas. But tonight my affection was dominated by witnessing a supreme talent in one Ms Michelle Johnson... Thank you Michelle, you are exquisite.

Serena Henry

Well folks, what a delightfully intriguing and wonderful evening last saturday we all enjoyed at the Stirling Club in Las Vegas... Great credit must be extended to the extraordinarily talented and beautiful Entertainment Director Kelly Clinton. She put together a litany of super Las Vegas talent that more than approximated cotton candy for the ears...

Kelly is a uniquely talented performer that integrates outstanding vocals with humor of which standing alone could easily propel her to a successful career as a stand up comic.
Believe me folks this woman is that talented and blessed... Somebody upstairs decided to create a talent stew of quick wits, great voice, breathtaking beauty and gut wrenching humor all in one soul... Who can I visually liken her to ? How about Ann Margaret and Ann might have to step it up a bit to hang with Kelly. Haa !!!

Folks, as if Kelly weren't busy enough negotiating her Entertainment duties for the Stirling Club she somehow summons the energy to star in the Las Vegas Hilton show across the street "Nunsense" !!! Go see it !!!

Last saturday Kelly out did herself when she highligted the Super-Star talents of one Serena Henry... Folks with all the praise I've just leveled on Kelly how can it be possible to locate acreage for Serena ? Easy... This lady commands space at the top... Serena is as gifted a vocalist as I've ever witnessed. She is equally at home with the great american song book as she is familiar with the outstanding classics of old school R&B... Serena astounded us with a riveting performance of Smokey Robinson's "Ooh Baby Baby"... Passion and commitment that somehow transcended this cover into her own... As if her vocals weren't outstanding enough Serena took this performance to a whole unforeseen plateau when she went to her knees...
What !!! Did I say she went to her knees !!! Roll over Jackie Wilson !!! Haa !!!
This lady was so into this song she went to her knees like the dynamic black male crooners of the past none better than the great Jackie Wilson... But Serena stayed on her knees crooning and pleading for forgiveness... Darn lady, I'd take you back !!! Haa !!!

What an outstanding performance... Kudos to you Serena. Oh, did I mention this fine (fine means good looking for those of you unfamiliar with this vernacular; ha!) is also one of the talented background singers for Smokey Robinson... You go girl !!!

Serena was highlighted this evening but Kelly didn't stop there. She often invites performers in and around Las Vegas for guest performances at the Stirling Club which encompassed a gentleman who was a long time performer in one of the tribute shows and another performer who represented vintage Vegas with his interpretation of "Mack the Knife"...

Variety was de rigueur and Kelly next brings up a woman who already occupies a seat at the top talent table, Ms Regi Brown who performs with legendary singer Gladys Knight... The only question regarding Ms Brown's talent is whether she will ultimately occupy not just a seat at the top talent table, but rather will she gravitate to the head of the table... She too is an extraordinary vocalist...

As if Kelly hadn't provided the audience with enough nourishment for the evening, she brings up little old me to sing a Marvin Gaye song... Haa !!! In view of the revolutions taking place in the Middle East, I thought it appropriate to perform Marvin's biggest hit from 1971 which is obviously still relevant today "What's Going On"... But to my glorius surprise, who did I find was backing me up on this performance ? Yep, the great Serena Henry !!! Folks, I was stoked !!! Shear pleasure !!! It doesn't get any better than this...

Thank you Serena, thank you Regi and big thanks to you Kelly for giving us all a memorable evening at the great Stirling Club... Je t'adore !!!

Buenos Aires

Just returned from Buenos Aires, Argentina... Stayed at the 5 star Faena Hotel+Universe... I recommend this city if you like sophistication, great food, greater wines, very beautiful women and the Tango... I do not recommend this city if you desire large bodies of water, a dearth of traffic and taxi drivers that do not imperil your life by exposing you to excessive speeding and tail gating that brings you within a few feet of a rear bumper at high speed... Scarry !!!

Some things you should be aware of... Fees to enter this country are outrageous.
And be aware that nationwide you can not add a tip to a bill being paid for with a credit card... I found this out the hard way... I had an excellent server who also was a Sommelier... This gentleman greatly aided in what was a delightful dining experience enhanced by his wine recommendations... Folks, this country produces outstanding wines most of which are produced in a region that borders Chile... But back to tipping.
When I went to pay the bill I noticed there was not an area to include a tip so I wrote in a substantial tip... I attempted same the next day at the pool when I noticed and was confirmed by a server that all tips must be in cash... This is country wide...
Why, I do not know... The bottom line is I never saw that server again and was not about to leave a substantial cash tip with another in hopes it reached it's final destination...

Additionally, at this hotel, when you pay your bill for any services you mysteriously do not receive a receipt... To me this is odd and unacceptable, to wit, upon checkout there was a rather large billing discrepancy for the great Tango show and dinner... But for making a personal note of the final bill, it would have been near impossible to refute and ultimately defeat this egregious over billing... As it was it still took approximately 30 mins to cure this over charge...

My bottom line with Buenos Aires is our winter is their summer... If you are fearful of terrorism in Europe but prefer European flavors with great style and music then
Buenos Aires deserves your consideration... However, if you adore great Spanish Cities such as Barcelona, well in my opinion there is no contest between the two...

Speaking of Mary Oliver

Last night I had the pleasure of performing a duet with Mary Oliver... We sang "My Girl" together whom I dedicated to a dear friend who was celebrating her son's 21st birthday... I've never seen her happier...
Mary is the perfect Entertainer if you are desirous of a classy environment where it is pleasurable just listening and relaxing with her gifted vocals or if you prefer, she understands reading the room and has the midtempo dance songs in her reportoire to energize all... What a great talent and what a great evening at the Stirling Club...
Stay tuned...

Mary Oliver

We were treated to a supreme talent last night at the Stirling Club and her name is Mary Oliver... She more than buttresses my opinion that Vegas is the mecca for great talent...

Mary's phrasing and even some of her facial expressions reminded me so much of the great Jazz Singer Nancy Wilson... But Mary is no copy cat, she is possessive of her own style and grace... She transmits love of her craft and that happy to be hear vibrancy that engulfs the room and collects the currency of smiles that gives everyone a seat on the love train...

She is warm, giving and appreciative... All attributes I believe are consistent with a great entertainer... She even asked me to do a guest number... Thanks Mary, I highly appreciated the opportunity and your talent providing myself and everyone else with a fun filled delightful evening at the Stirling Club...

On another subject, if some of you recall, I have had a hoarse voice for the last two years here in Vegas... I've had my voice box scoped and underwent allergy tests among other tests to locate the problem... Because of a very small little posting on the internet I believed I had uncovered the problem... Although I have spent my life without any overt symptons of allergies, my test did indicate I'm likely allergic to dust and chlorine...

Many of you may not be aware of a condition that some entertainers get in Vegas called "Vegas Throat"... It's grounded in the air here that also triggers allergies big time... For myself, however, I have identified my problem and yes it is the dust and other pollutants in the air here but also the city of Henderson has industrial plants that produce chlorine for all the pools in the valley and those plants release these pollutants that combined with the dust have served to wreak havoc on my speaking and singing voice...

This was recently confirmed for me as it rained approximately 4 days in the valley and on the 4th day my voice completely cleaned up and I could speak and hit any note desired with such ease that I simply couldn't believe it... Shear ecstacy !!! I almost forgot just how big my range was and how smooth and effortlessly I could control my near 3 octave range...  Sadly, however, on the 6th day ecstacy was recalled and hoarsness began reemerging... The effects of the rain cleansing the air had abated... Folks it is a devastating feeling to say the least...

Stay tuned...

Hot in Vegas !!!

I had such a great time last Friday in the Stirling Club and it may explain a little as to why I am still in Vegas and not back in Southern Cal or presently on a world tour that I previously spoke of...

I did secure a waterside townhome in the Palm Springs area (a fixer upper) with my own private boat dock, however, after spending one night I realized I do not possess the fixer upper personality and the peace and quiet I wasn't quite ready for yet...

I further havn't completely secured my tour and have been hesitant to do so... A major factor in said hesitancy was and is an opportunity for an equity position in the Stirling Club of which that initial possiblity, which seemed so promising, ultimately failed due to a complete sociopathic investor...

Folks, as an ex-WallStreeter, I have encountered all kinds of well healed people and flakes alike, however, this investor takes the cake !!! That is all I will say about this for now, other than if you ever get that uneasy feeling about presumed facts that are being fed to you, well guess what, just run like hell !!! Haaa !!!

There are very sick but sophisticated people in the world who are very adept at locating your needs and greed and when they do...  Well you know the rest...

Anyway on to better things in life like peforming last Friday at the Stirling Club, rekindling an old friendship and enjoying the kinship of like minded people in a private club environment that somehow manages to be classy but not stuffy... When Vegas get's it right I do not think there are to many towns that can do it better...

Great entertainment (thanks Ronnie Rose), great dancing (thanks old friend), great kinship (thanks members) and a joy to perform there (thanks to the band and appreciative members)...

A lovely, lovely, lovely evening... The Stirling Club is truly a special place...

Stay tuned...

Lest I forget, many complements to the Sommelier, Patrick, for the adventurous wine pairings... Outstanding !!!

Of course the evening didn't terminate with dinner as many of us transitioned to the Piano Lounge and enjoyed the music of the great Ronnie Rose and the Allstar Stirling Club Band...  Thanks again Ronnie for allowing me to sit in with a Marvin Gaye number...

In closing I'd like to say I've decided to stay in Vegas for another year and a half before returning to Southern California to learn and experience a little more of what this city has to offer...  Please everyone, I offer this with humble sincerity, do what you are and do it with passion...

Get Ready !!!

As the Temptations said "Get Ready" !!!  I'm getting ready to tour the world... I have and outstanding international agency and I'm mentally primed for the challenge... Stay tuned for details, I just might be in your country soon...

And wow !!! Last night at the Stirling Club was outstanding... Folks there is nothing like pros getting together and just jamming... The beautiful Kelly Clinton was again the consummate showman integrating doses of humor with accomplished beautiful vocals... Not an easy task but one she has mastered...

My buddy Jerome had good news too... Remember he previously sang with the Drifters but will now be applying his talents on the strip with the Platters...

I contributed with "MY Girl" but the show stopper last night was the great Clint Holmes who brought such creativity to the new standards such as "Respect" and "Since I fell for You" !!!  Talk about integration !!! This gentleman does it like no other... His many years of headlining on the strip is manifesting itself in a style solely his own... He extends, caresses, massages and intermittently scats his way through a song that simply leaves an audience astounded at his craftsmanship and creativity... As a fellow artist, I take my hat off to you Clint !!!  You are truly great...

Life as you are all aware, always seem to hurl curve balls at you... It is how you handle the junk that ultimately defines you... My impending reintroduction to the world arose as a surprise and comes at a time I am marketing my condo in Vegas to move back to Southern California... Hummmm, complicated...  Haaa !!!  But you know what folks ?  When you are about to reembark upon something you love the curve balls appear like big basketballs coming at you... You can see and hit them with ease...

Well enough of my musings... Haaa !!! Thanks to great artists like Kelly, Clint, Ronnie Rose, Alissa and all the other great great stars I have been able to study in Vegas, I will soon depart with a wealth of additional seasoning that I hope to apply to your listening and viewing enjoyment...

I'm coming to you soon... Stay tuned...

Impromptu

Hi folks...

I've been absent a while but as California's Governor might say "I'm Backkkkk" !!! Haa !!! I had fun tonight at the Stirling Club as the very beautiful Kelly Clinton Holmes, wife of long time headliner at Harrahs, Clint Holmes puts a mic in your face while you are at the bar imbibing, what do you do ???

Well folks if you know me the show is on !!! We did real good with impromtu harmonizations of Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" !!! Kelly is a great singer as she proved tonight with her very special rendition of Billie Holiday's "Good Morning Heartache"... She also is an informative Entertainer educating the audience on the true substance of that song... If you are like me and I dare say the majority of lovers of that song, you would assume Billie's heartache and monday morning blues was due to a man... Well according Kelly it was really a cry for help relating to Billie's long time drug addiction...

Wow !!!  I've performed that song many times never realizing the images I generally paint in my mind to aid in the feeling of the song were so incorrect... Thanks Kelly...

And thanks too to Mickey Brown... An extraordinary singer who captured us all with her performance of Anita Baker's "Rapture"... She really has great bottom that seemlessly launches into her higher register that is symptomatic of a truly accomplished singer...  The real singers know what I am talking about... Ummm, notwithstanding the one octave or less range bound contemporary products of today...

Well folks I have started the process of returning home to L.A.... I miss the ocean and Southern California weather... I've seen much of the world and nearly all of the Cote d'Azur and believe it or not excepting European architecture, California is hard to beat...

Stay tuned...

Friday Night at the Stirling Club

Friday night was exhilirating at the Stirling Club as it began with the Pierre 21 Dinner in the 28 Room...  This is the French inspired dinner including wine pairings for each course... Pierre is the French Banquet Director for the Stirling Club and of Charlie Palmer Mgmt fame... He and his chosen Chefs prepared the most outstanding French Cuisine I've ever tasted and I've spent quite a bit of time in France...

The meal is prepared for 21 diners only with Pierre's comments and education preceding each course including wine descriptions...  The service is impeccable...  The experience is second to none...

Then it was off to the Piano Lounge where Ronnie Rose and the all-star Stirling Club Band was rocking the house...  Folks we were jamming !!!
And thanks Ronnie for inviting me to perform a couple of numbers... And thanks to the girls from Reno for heating up the dance floor...

Friday night was memorable at the very grand Stirling Club...

Wednesday Nights at the Stirling Club

Singer Carmine Mandia (Shades of Sinatra) and Pianist Ned Mills were great tonight...  These are very gifted Musicians and Entertainers.... It was a pleasure to be invited as a Guest Performer in their show... Thank you both...

Songs I performed ?  How about "Unforgettable", "My Girl" and "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine"...  We had a ball !!!

Carmine and Ned, I very much look forward to the next time...

Stay tuned...

Happy Post-Valentine's Day

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day that was inclusive of beautiful romantic music...

I attended the Stirling Club Valentine's Day Diner and Dance... It was classy, understated and romantic...  The musical performance of Ronnie Rose was precisely appropriate for the evening... The food was great and so was my date for the evening...  Thank you Anastacia !!!

She and I then retired to the Piano Lounge and enjoyed one of my favorite Singers ever...  Elisa Fiorillo...  I mistakenly posted she had won Star Search, actually she did but it was Star Search Juniors...  She had never heard me sing and I was surprised when she requested I do a few numbers to help her with her ailing voice...  I suggested "Just My Imagination" which she was very happy about although she didn't know any of the lyrics she felt she could do some harmonies... Well I've performed that song hundreds of times, however, if you recall, the last time I performed that song it was with Reggie Brown of "Car Wash" fame and as I've never done a duet with that song I suddenly couldn't recall the lyrics as she was singing her verse...

Folks, with that occurence in the back of my mind I began to feel pressure regarding lyric retention...  I do not have to tell you that spells impending disaster !!!  Haaa !!!  And sure enough after the first verse I went blank !!! So what do you do ?  Haaaa !!!  Folks, I have this other skill that allows me to create a song on the spot...  While the music is playing some how some way I am able to create lyrics about any subject at random...  I use to employ those skills at my shows by picking someone or something in the audience, e.g., a red dress or a scarf, or perhaps shoes or how a couple looks together and was able to craft a verse or two specifically for them so that the song became personal to them...  I do not know where this skill come's from but it has saved me on numerous occasions....

But in view of that lyric memory loss, it was never more acute than my first performance on the "Love Boat"...  Years ago when I sang at the "Indian Well Resort Hotel" outside of Palm Springs, I was performing on the night Sinatra passed and of course he had a home in Palm Springs and was revered there inclusive of myself...  I decided to sing a tribute song to him for this unusally large crowd that evening...  I chose "My Way"....  The perfect Sinatra song for the circumstances... Well I got near the end of the song (the last verse) and as some of you are aware when I really feel emotional in a song I sometimes close my eyes... That moment was upon me but when I opened them there was not a dry eye in the house !!!  Oh my God !!!!!  I was shocked and already emotional while attempting to convey such by closing my eyes and then it happened ????  Yes folks, I broke down too...  Oh not boo hoo hoo !!!  But tears flowing !!!

As a consequence of that evening whenever, going forward, that song was requested I would break down at the very same point in that song so I stopped performing it and when requested I would tell this story as to why I could not honor the request...

Well on my first night on the "Love Boat" this very sweet older lady sitting down front requested that song...  After listening to my story she said "young man don't you worry because tonight I'll help you through it "...  Now folks how could I ever deny her ?  I couldn't and I began the song nervously and approached the moment...  And guess what ?  I made it through !!!!  It's now back in my repertoire....

But back to Elisa Fiorillo who by the way recently toured with Prince...  It was a pleasure singing with someone I admire greatly... In my mind she has one of the cleanest most emotional voices I have ever heard...  She is simply great !!!

After making up a couple of verses for "Just My Imagination" I wanted to do a song I could perform in my sleep and is also an audience favorite "What's Going On".... People loved it...

Well that's my Valentine's weekend I truly hope yours was memorable too...

Stay tuned...

Singing With Ronnie Rose

Last night at the Stirling Club Ronnie Rose gave us another great performance...  I was enjoying his performance immensely while dancing with this very beautiful Italian lady, Anastacia...  Although I was much horser than usual I was apparently singing in her ear, haaa !!!!  Well we had just met and she had no concept of my background when she said I could sing and dared me to sing to the crowd...  She wasn't buying my horseness excuse and continued to advance her challenge...

Well folks, old Radcliffe loves a challenge, haaaa !!! I informed Ronnie Rose and he gave me the mic on the next song (thanks Ronnie)...  I went with Marvin Gayes "What's Going On" because of the simplicity of the vocal range and guess what folks, call it the wine or fear or some musical God's unknown, but I was able to deliver and during the song my confidence soared allowing me to take this song to different places...  For those of you who have heard me sing are aware of my big vocal range (nearly three octaves) and I just caressed that song with intermittent power infusions and the crowd was stunned...

Well Ronnie came up after Mike (the Musical Director/Pianist/Keyboardist) vamped the song a bit (strectching it out) and surprised me by having Mike start up "My Girl" of which Ronnie and I performed and amazing duet to it...  Folks the crowd loved it...  Thanks Ronnie you are a supremely gifted and generous performer...

Stay tuned...

Piero's and the Stirling Club

What a weekend in Las Vegas...  Some time ago I mentioned a very good friend in Reno and she flew in for the weekend which we started off directly from the airport with a fabulous dinner at Piero's Italian Restaurant... Piero's is consistenly voted the best Italian Restaurant in Vegas...  She had the Red Snapper and I had one of Piero's specialties the Osso Buco... Delectable would be my description of both...  And paired with one of the best Italian Wines I've ever tasted, in fact I think it rivaled Camus at a lower price point...

We then went to the lounge to enjoy a great singer, Carmine Mandia of the former show "Shades of Sinatra" and a regular at the Stirling Club on Wednesdays...  Carmine asked me to sing a couple of numbers and of course I accomodated with Lou Rawls's "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" and "I Left My Heart In San Francisco...  Joyful !!!

My friend and I then scurried to the Stirling Club to hear Ronnie Rose, however, our stay was interrupted as the Champagne and Red Wine established a quicker than usual effect on her... Well it ultimately turned out that my friend who is a Doctor wasn't taking very good care of herself of late and she was rapidly coming down with Flu unknown to us at that time...

Well it was nothing that a roaring fire, more Champagne, Strawberries and Vegan Creme and my substantial music collection couldn't impede for another day or so... Haaaa !!!

As previously mentioned we had no knowledge that Flu was imminent as we danced, almost the night away Saturday at the Stirling Club, when she suddenly wished to depart...  Well we then knew something was wrong because the good Doctor works hard and plays hard...

Today she is employing all of her remedies including a 3 hour drip as she has a substantial patient load but Flu is stubborn...

So get well baby !!!  And I'll see you all next time...

Pierre's Table 21

Those of you who know me are aware I am a very artistic man...  Those qualities also enure to other creative endeavors such as culinary delights... As such I must briefly inform you of one of life's great experiences available to members of the fantastic Stirling Club in Las Vegas...

I am a lover of fine dining around the world and I must say the finest dining experience I have ever enjoyed took place last night in the Stirling Club's 28 room which is an intimate dinning room for 28 guests exclusively...

The Stirling's Club Banquet Director, Chef Pierre Bouyer and five other Chef's prepared a French inspired menu with wine pairings that defies description...  The French might say "fantastic" !!!  The Hip Hopper's might say "sweet" !!!  But all myself and other diners in ecstacy could muster up was "oh my God" !!!

The intimate setting, the comraderie of like minds and the greatest culinary delights I have ever experienced rendered the evening to unforgettable status...

Thank you Stirling Club and Pierre for a great lifetime remembrance...

Elvis Night at the Stirling Club

Well tonight we celebrated Elvis's 75th birthday... The talented and very beautiful Kelly Clinton started out with her impersonation of Elvis and then we had an Elvis impersonator who did well and was a great compliment to Kelly's show...

Kelly then did a very smart thing and brought on another singer who departed from the Elvis songs and then followed up with me... I do not normally sing on Saturday's at the Stirling Club with kelly but tonight I rocked the house !!! It was great !!!

I decided to cover the full three octave range of my voice and had so much fun with "My Girl" and "What's Going On" which was enhanced by the Stirling Club All Star Band directed by Mr. Michael Clark who in my opinion is a flat out musical genius...

Folks were dancing and singing along with me and simply displayed total fun... We rocked it folks... You know, tonight reminded me of just how much I love to entertain...  I'm beginning to miss it...

Stay tuned...

Happy New Year Everybody

I hope you all had a wonderful New Year celebration... I attended a formal dinner at the Stirling Club and it was the very best evening I've ever had excepting when I am performing... Early Clover of the Coaster's performed for us and it was a wonderful presentation...

New Year's day I performed a duet of "Just My Imagination" at the Stirling Club with Regi Brown... You all know her voice from the big hit "Car Wash" by Rose Royce...

It was a truly wonderfully classy weekend !!! I hope 2010 is great for us all...

Happy New Year !!!

Two Venues

Hi folks... Well last friday was really fun as I sang at Piero's and then later at the Stirling Club, however, this hoarsness I've been wrestling with suddenly took a turn for the worse... Needless to say this is very disappointing because I love my new album entitled "Love Letters" and it is ready to record in studio as soon as my voice is suitable...

This condition they call "Vegas Throat" is no joke to some Entertainers, just ask Cher as she has had to cancel shows in the past attempting to negotiate it... I've lived in Palm Springs and Scottsdale and never had any such problem... Yes, the air is really different in Vegas... Stay tuned...

Turnberry PLace Las Vegas

Hi folks,

My show last Tuesday at Turnberry Place was a great success... It was catered by the Stirling Club and was soooo classy... I was able to do the variety of songs which is an identity of my shows... I love singing in that kind of environment...

Friday at the Stirling Club I sang a duet with Jerome who is a former member of the Drifters back in New York... We performed Smokey's "Ooh Baby Baby" !!! Our rendition which was vamped to allow us to go to tables and adlive with the ladies was very well received... I enjoyed this type of entertaining (crooning) immensely... I look forward to recreating that mood...

The Producers of the show across the street "Voices" at the Hilton were in the house and I am thankful for their generous compliments and their personal invitation to their show...

Stay tuned !!!

Tonight it was the Brand Lounge in Monte Carlo Casino compliments of Carmine and Ned... This is a very good venue to sing in, I enjoyed it immensely... If you are in Vegas on Sunday's stop by and see the Zowie Bowie show and then come over to the Brand Lounge to see Carmine and Ned... Relax and enjoy beautiful live music...

Ciao folks, this week was fun filled so I have to get my beauty rest... Haa !!!

Until next time...

Piero's

It was such a great time singing with Carmine and Ned Wednesday at the Stirling Club, but Friday at the very famous top Italian Restaurant in Las Vegas, Piero's, was the bomb !!!

If you saw the movie Casino, part of that movie was shot at Piero's and of course this was a one time hangout for the "Rat Pack" as well as Presidents and too many stars and dignitaries to list here...  And the food is great too !!! Piero's has been repeatedly honored as the top Italian Cuisine Restaurant in Las Vegas...  I'm certain that many of you conventioneers have eaten there as it is located just steps from the Convention Center...

One of the things I particularly liked about Piero's was how the men were dressed... Those of you who have seen me perform know that I am an Armani wearing clothes horse !!! Haaa !!! I love to dress well... I was shocked that appx 95% of the men there were in suits or at least in suit jackets.

But the greater shocker for me was Carmine had a parade of these gentlemen come to the mic and folks, remember I keep saying how much talent is in Las Vegas, well tonight was amazing... You talk about singer after singer, all accomplished, all dressed, all classy, it was a night to remember... My kind of style...

I also learned that Ned was the Musical Director of the "Shades of Sinatra" show which was at the Suncoast and guess who was one of the stars ? Yea, Carmine Mandia !!! And a couple of these gifted singers were also in that show... Hummm, one of these guys sounded so much like Sinatra that he reminded me of my friend Alfredo Caravelli (who naturally sounds just like Sinatra) who joined me for a New Years Eve 1998 show I performed at the "Indian Wells Resort Hotel"

Ned, who usually plays the key's with his left hand while blowing his muted trumpet with his right, gave way to another great Pianist and put on one of the best Louie Armstrong impressions (with hankercheif) I've ever seen...

Folks, it was a great and fun filled evening...

I also learned this week I will be back performing at Tower 4's Turnberry Place's annual Owner's party on Nov 10th... Last year this was such a classy catered event I loved performing for it...

On another note, I purchased another Humidifier which seems to be aiding my voice hoarsness a little bit (I think)... I'm encouraged, as I have changed my next CD again and think I did a pre-studio recorded version that is acceptable to me...  It will comprise 16 songs and I've changed the title to LOVE LETTER'S !!!  Great, great love songs bourne from a couple of broken hearts I've had to endure... Yes, even Mr Romantic is not immune to a boken heart !!! Haa !!! I hope I can record it soon in time for the Holidays... Of course that would be pressing, but I am hopeful...

Stay tunned........

Talent Galore in Vegas

Well folks, last Wednesday was divine... I sat in for many songs with Carmine Mandia and Ned, his very gifted Pianist/Keyboardist and Trumpeter Extradonaire at the Stirling Club...

I did duets with both musicians such as "My Girl" and "You'll Never Find Another Love Mine" with the supremely talented Keyboardist and songs like "Girl From Ipanema" with Carmine...  The Ned stunned me when he played the keys with his left hand and played a muted trumpet with his right hand and he's a very good singer too !!! Folks, it was great great fun...

Friday was equal fun doing a couple of duets with Ronnie Rose and the Stirling Club Allstar Band...

Sunday I went to see Ronnie Rose at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay and I've got to tell you, it was one of the greatest most energetic shows I've ever seen...  The super accomplished and very beautiful Elisa Fiorillo sang her heart out... Perhaps you've seen her on Jay Leno backing up Prince ? And she's now off to Paris this week to back up Prince there...

What talent exist in this town...  Stay tuned...

Update

Hi folks...

I've been sitting in at the Stirling Club with Ronnie Rose and last week with Carmine Mandia who is a superb interpreter of the American Song Book... We performed a duet of "Unforgettable"...

Today I had the pleasure of meeting one of my most influential Singers and absolutely one of the best Singers of all times, Mr. Tony Bennett... We both share the same Tennis Coach (Marty) at the Stirling Club in Las Vegas and today we had a brief chat... He was amazed that I sing so many of his songs such as "Emily", "The Second Time Around", "Stella By Starlight", "The Shadow of Your Smile" and so many others... He inquired as to how long I had been singing this type of music ? I responded that I started my Entertainment career late in life and had been singing these songs for 15 years... He gave me an uplifting jolt as a reminder that he is now 82 and still going strong !!! Hummmm, and out in the hot Las Vegas sun taking Tennis lessons too... What a guy !!!

It was a very joyful experience meeting Tony Bennett as he is one of the 3 singers who have infuenced me most... I also met one of the other two, Mr. Smokey Robinson !!! I actually met Smokey at the Paramount Studios in Los Angeles when he was in session way back in the late 70's and then again backstage at Motown's 30th... You all remember that telecast, I'm sure...

Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting my third biggest influence who is a true genius, Mr. Curtis Mayfield...  We actually lived only a few blocks apart when I was growing up in Chicago... By the way, all three were present on my fusion album but I decided to move Tony's song, "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" to my American Song Book album...

I got the pleasure, however, of seemingly working with Curtis Mayfield, remember that great group the "Impressions", (If you do not know, he has passed on) by taking his music and writing my own lyrics over one of his songs "Give Me Your Love"...  If I dare say so myself, "Luscious Love" will be awesome when I can finally record it... Oh Smokey's song ?  Ha ha !!! How about "Ooh Baby Baby"....  Ummmmmm, ladies get ready !!! Heee he... It's going to be Luscious Love...

Well the preproduction is complete on both albums... One is pure American Song Book, and the other entitled "Luscious Love" is composed of sexy R&B and POP ballads... The only delay before hitting the studio is I have "Vegas Throat" which many Entertainers get here in this very dry climate with all the dust and other stuff in the air... The remedy is hot water with lemon and honey, however, I can't seem to shake it... I had my voice box scoped in Reno and nothing is wrong... So if it isn't some unkown allergy (I also saw an allergy specialist in Reno) it must be "Vegas Throat"... When I was singing 3 month contracts every night without a night off on the "Love Boat" I was never hoarse...  It's very disturbing to not be able to sing the way I know I can and to think these audiences in Las Vegas think I can really blow but they don't know the half of it yet... Just wait !!!

My voice is always hoarse and I can't seem to rely on hitting those effortless clean notes those of you who have heard or seen me sing have come to appreciate... I am amazed at this as I basically started my career in Palm Springs which is the same climate and have never experienced anything such as this...

If improvement continues to avoid me, I will have to relocate my primary residence to either Reno, San Francisco, or my beloved Nice, France...  I am very anxious after my several years of time out to record these two albums so I can began touring again...

By the way, the reason for two albums is I was attempting a fusion of the American Song Book and sexy R&B ballads on one CD and after choosing 14 songs from the 70 that I worked on and listening for a month to the final work, I decided that this music serves two different demographics and from a marketing point of view was not a wise step to comingle...  However, those of you who have seen me perform really do appreciate that fusion but from a pure marketing point of view, I could foresee the unwiseness of it all...

Anyway thanks for listening and stay tuned as I have a decision to make with regard to a very big TV show I'm contemplating which could serve as either a big risk or the final propeller that could jettison me to certain fame...  But you know folks, believe it or not, I never embarked upon this journey for money...  It was always for love and passion and I am just not certain I wish to compromise those virtues...

I've Been At Work

Hi...  Sorry I've not communicated for a while but I've been in preproduction on my new CD...  It is tentatively entitled " INSEPERABLE"...  I think it's great !!!  I eliminated over 60 songs to get down to twelve and I am still toiling in uncertainty regarding the first song...  I have conflicting ideas...

In the interim, a few weeks ago Ronnie Rose and I performed a duet at a predominantly small black club with tremendous talent and energy called the SQUARE APPLE on east Sahara in Las Vegas... Folks, if there is any place on earth that has more talent than Las Vegas, I'd like to hear about it as I've been around the world and in my opinion there is more great performing talent in Las Vegas than any place on earth...

Tonight there was a new sax man sitting in with the Stirling Club Allstars and the great Ronnie Rose and I have to tell you, I'm not certain I've ever heard any better musician than he...  Simply awesome !!!

And I've not heard Ronnie perform Jazz Standards at the level he was on tonight...  Truly off the charts !!!!

It was a pleasure to perform tonight two Motown songs (the new standards), MY GIRL and JUST MY IMAGINATION initially solo and then as a vocal trio with Ronnie Rose and the awesome sax man (Tommy) whom I think is a musician in the Aussie tribute show to Smokey Robinson...  We had a very small crowd tonight at the Stirling Club ( these folks have multiple homes and do not necessarily summer in Vegas) but that presented an opportunity to really just be musicians and blow....

It was a great night to be artistic...  There is nothing like it...

Stay tunned...

Scatting at the Stirling Club

It's fun to be a Musician !!!  Friday night the beautiful and funny Kelly Clinton was singing with Ronnie Rose and she motion with the mic to come and join them...  I complied and it was wonderful to sing with her and Ronnie but then Clint Holmes came up and the fun really escalated...  He is a supremely talented Entertainer and he began to scat and I joined him...  Folks, this was great great fun to create on the fly...

The Stirling Club audience loved it... If this isn't the very best private club in America I do not know who that could be...  Take a look for yourselves at www.stirlingclublv.com....

Fun Fun Fun

Hello again folks...  What a great and fun night at the Stirling Club in Las Vegas...  Champagne was flowing and I had the best Seared Halibut I've ever experienced...  The Super Chef Charlie Palmer led food service is nothing short of excellent...

The entertainment was cooking with the great Ronnie Rose and a completely different band last night...  They were great !!! This town, I'll say it again, has soooo many talented musicians it never ceases to amaze me...

Ronnie invited me up to sing a duet with him and we had a blast performing "Stand By Me" and then we fused directly into "Under The Boardwalk" while undertaking some lively adlibbing while the band looped...  Ronnie then announced he would leave the stage so I could do a solo which was a Marvin Gaye song I just love to keep singing "What's Going On"...

I'll reiterate, what a generous star Ronnie is to share his venue with a scrub like me...  Ha ha !!!  You folks are aware I'm just kidding about my level of talent...  Hee hee...  Aren't you ? (smile)...

Afterwards I danced the night away and met three lovely and very beautiful ladies from Reno...  I made friends and shared a wonderfully magical evening with one in particular who happens to be a Doctor of Naturopathy which was a career path I once strongly considered...  Actually I did study very deeply the disciplines of Nutritional Therapies at a Nutrional College and I also attended for a short while a college of Chinese Medicine and Accupunture...  My interest in alternative medicine was peaked by many years of Martial Arts Studies and the desire to achieve a superior level of health...  I'd like to thank her for a very lovely and "Unforgettable" (my mind always revolves around song) evening... Thank you Carol...

Stay tuned !!!

Stirling Club Private Event

Entertained a private event in an intimate room at the Stirling Club in Las Vegas last Saturday night and had a ball... The female company owner and it's employees overwhelmingly preferred dance music even when they sat down for dinner... Well folks this is where my significant near 1,000 song repertoire yielded extreme benefits...

As many of you are aware who have enjoyed my shows for more than one evening, you know that I like a balance of Love Songs, Latin, Brazilian, Jazz, Broadway, and Dance, but it felt great to just rock dance song after dance song and see everyone up and energetically dancing... I think they wanted a little more Hip Hop but ummmm Mr Romantic only does a couple of those songs (ha ha) but a mixture of old school R&B Dance songs coupled with Disco was actually classier and they agreed yielded more fun...

Folks it has taken approximately 15 years to become proficient in this many songs, remember, the average band does about 35 songs, so it's great to experience the rewards of my hard work...

Thanks for following me and I'll see you next time... Happy Holidays !!!

Thank God It's Friday

What a special night it was Friday at the Stirling Club... Performed a Marvin Gaye song and enjoyed the stylings of Ronnie Rose and another great female artist (Darcus) in Las Vegas... And in another Stirling Club room just next door, the Stirling Club Band featuring Kelly Clinton (the wife of headliner Clint Holmes) was busy entertaining residents and members for a special event... What a night !!! Stay tuned...

A Magical Las Vegas Evening

Well folks it was a magical night at the Four Turnberry Place Condo's in Las Vegas as Glenn Radcliffe (Mr Romantic) performed for the many well healed and stylish owners...

The weather was perfect for the pool side catered buffet and grill... The fireplace accentuated the broad song stylings of Mr Romantic and the the beautiful contemporary multi-function room with a full bar, inclusive of Bartenders and Servers, was nothing short of any of the top rooms Glenn Radcliffe has performed in around the world...

If you recall how you were effected by the talent and grace of Glenn, you have a good idea of how he and his music were received... It was a stunning success and fun for all... But mostly for Glenn... He performed 3 1/2 hrs straight without a break (which is his norm) and couldn't help but ignore the choice of enjoying dinner and cocktails himself on breaks... Noooo, if you know Glenn, he simply loves to perform and communicates that feeling to all...

This was Glenn's first full show since departing The Princess Cruise Ship (The Coral) in Alaska a few years ago... Perhaps some of you recall Glenn previously opened a season in Alaska on his more permanent Princess Cruise Ship the Sun Princess (The Love Boat)... Glenn says "he was surprised his voice was better than ever and could sustain a show that long without a break"....

If you get a chance to see Glenn, take it, it will be a night to remember...

Turnberry PLace Las Vegas

Hi... Glenn will be performing Oct 2nd at the fabulous Turnberry Place Condominiums in Las Vegas... And had a wonderfully received performance last Friday night sitting in with Ronnie Rose at the Stirling Club Las Vegas...

What's Going On

Haa !!! Performed Marvin's "What's Going On" with Ronnie Rose and the Stirling Club Band last Saturday night... What a great reception... Audiences really love that song... And so do I !!!

I'm considering putting together my own band which would insure strip performances but I'm hesitant because I really do enjoy solo performing...

Stay tune....

The Riviera Hotel

Well folks, I received a bit of disappointing news last night as I have been planning a business venture to ultimately surprise you with....

I was putting together a business model which was a small showroom on the strip approximately 175 to 300 seats with a dance floor below the stage... This would be similiar in nature to the beautiful Atrium Lounge on the "Love Boat" (The Sun Princess) in which so many of you danced to my performances...

What you do not know is that was not a dance venue... I had most of the seating removed before the show and moved to the edges to accomodate dancing... You have told me and I could see how much you enjoyed this...

Well folks this was the business model I intended to bring to the Las Vegas Strip and the Rivera Hotel had the perfect venue in there Le Bistro Theater... The right size, an old Vegas name, and most importantly a dance floor in front of the stage... The dance floor still shows on there website... Unfortunately, I learned last night that the dance floor is no more...

I really think my show would have been wonderful as there is a serious dearth of live music encompassing the "The Great American Songbook" and certainly nothing on the Strip that would also feature dancing too... To my knowledge that would have been the only show on the Strip serving that demographic with song and dance...

I must tell you this was one of the reasons I relocated to Las Vegas... This is rather disappointing... But folks, as old blue eyes would sing "That's Life" !!!

To be continued...

Bootlegger Bistro

Well another great night in Las Vegas... I went to the very famous Bootlegger Bistro on the South Strip which has formerly been awarded "Best of Las Vegas" in such categories as "Best Place To Spot A Celebrity", "Best Late- Night Dining", Best Karaoke", Best Italian Restaurant In Southern Nevada" and "Favorite Italian Restaurant"....

The Bootlegger Bistro has Entertainment 7 nights a week and I was drawn there to see the great Ronnie Rose in concert... Ronnie told me "this was his first Gig when he moved to Las Vegas nearly 4 years ago"... I observed how warmly the staff received him and as an Entertainer I can tell you such demonstration says volumes about Ronnie Rose...

Upon my entrance I was treated regally by the Manager and Maitre D Mr. Sean Grady and after greeting Ronnie Rose he escorted me to a little roped off reserved table that had a great view of the show... I thoroughly enjoyed my Shrimp Scampi and wine suggested and excellently served by Sean...

Then, of course, seeing Ronnie Rose in Concert was a supreme delight... He was singing with a different band this time and I must tell you the musicianship of the Keyboardist and Drummer was astounding... Of course Ronnie was the complete pro that he is and I heard some different songs from his reportoir that really accentuated his great vocal stylings... In the interim, Sean had escorted me to Ronnie's table up front where I met his beautiful wife and was afforded a close up view of Ronnie's song book... I gazed in shock as his book looked like the yellow pages... Big !!!
Folks I perform over 900 songs and that is generally unheard of in this business as the average band performs about 35 songs... I won't even speculate how many songs must be contained in his book... It was impressive to say the least...

Ronnie Rose is a great Entertainer who is very secure with his talent which allows him to be very generous in inviting other Artists to share his stage... Tonight in the "Blues" section of his show he invited a gentleman up who Ronnie said "was one of the greatest Blues Singers in all of Las Vegas"... Well he wasn't kidding... Folks this guy Mr. Bobby Jones was the real deal... He was great !!! After the show I went over to his table to congratulate him on his performance and I stated to him that "I thought B.B. King didn't have anything on him" when Ronnie Rose stated "he (Bobby Jones) actually has worked with B.B. King"... If you like Blues you would have loved his voice..

Well folks when Ronnie stated "this was the last song of the show" I was surprised by the Manager requesting that I sing a song... Ronnie invited me up and suggested I sing "Stand By Me" a great song I use to perform quite a bit, however, I havn't been performing for a while and I wasn't absolutely confident that I would recall all the lyrics so I suggested an old stand by (no pun intended: ha ha) "My Girl"... It was envigorating to be back on stage and the audience reception was great... I'd like to thank Ronnie Rose and the Manager of the Bootlegger Bistro for a wonderful evening... Please accept my heartfelt thanks...

And folks when you are in Las Vegas stop by the Bootlegger Bistro for great food, service and top entertainment... It's located at 7700 Las Vegas Bl South Strip roughly 5 mins south of Mandalay Bay on your left side... It will be well worth your while to enjoy a locals favorite... And I think they serve a full menu 24 hrs a day...

Until next time...

Great Talent In Vegas !!!

Hello everyone,

Well I had an exhilirating night Saturday at the "Stirling Club" in Las Vegas...

After enjoying several supremely talented female guest singers who accompanied the very talented Kelly Clinton ( a very exciting Las Vegas entertaimnent fixture and new bride to Las Vegas headliner Clint Holmes) I was surprised by an invitation from the great Ronnie Rose ( ronnieroseband.com) to sit in with him and the band and perform one of my favorite songs My Girl !!!

I must say that I am highly impressed by the level of talent in Las Vegas... It is so fulfilling to be surrounded by so many great artists...

Clint Holmes sang a number with the ladies and although I had seen his headline show a few years ago I was really impressed with the softness and the song styling this great artist rendered during that number which to me was so different from the stylings I enjoyed in his headline show.... I've got to tell ya folks, it was impressive !!! Perhaps some of you will remember him from his hit song "My Name Is Michael" ....

I am very partial to the smooth, sophisticated, and seasoned black entertainers who deliver the Great American Song book and can fuse it with old school R&B and other significant Pop Stylings in a very talented warm and unpretentious manner... This is the essence of the great Ronnie Rose... A sheer pleasure to listen to...

If this wasn't enough talent for one night in one venue, while I was sitting at the bar sipping Champagne and enjoying the largest and best Shrimp Cocktail ( Chef Charlie Palmer creation) just as I got excited about the chorus of a song being performed by Ronnie Rose I began to sing the chorus too... And then to my surprise this voluptuous lady had just stepped to my right for bar service and she began to sing the chorus as well and we extemporaneously began harmonizing (and pretty good in my opinion; haa !!!) as we looked at each other and began to laugh and compliment the other for our talent....

Well folks, that lady, after introductions, turned out to be Sandra Benton, one of the stars performing across the street at the Las Vegas Hilton in the heralded production show "Menopause" !!!

What talent and what a town !!!

Stay tuned...

Performing Again !!!

Hi everyone...

Well I'm getting close to completing my move to Las Vegas and the other night I had the opportunity to sit in with a great trio at the very upscale, fabulous, and very private STIRLING CLUB domiciled at the Turnberry Place Condominiums in Las Vegas...

It felt great to be back in front of an audience again... What song did I sing ? How about (for all you Marvin Gaye song requestors) What's Going On !!!

I can't wait to conclude my move and update my website and Promo Kit with new videos, demos, and acknowledgements so I can get back to performing around the world...

Incidentally, I'd like to belatedly thank the kind words said about me from Princess Cruisers who loved my show that I accidentally discovered on the CRUISE CRITIC WEBSITE (cruisecritic.com)...
Thank you very much...

See ya soon !!!!

Viva Las Vegas

Hello everyone... Well the Real Estate Gods were good to me so I've purchased a Las Vegas Strip Condo and am very busy installing Bamboo floors and attending to all the other facets of design...

I am very anxious to get back to doing what I love to do, ENTERTAIN YOU !!!

I will perform in Las Vegas but I will start booking around the world in such places as Singapore, Ireland, Denmark, and Dubai so I can see you in your natural habitat...

I have much work to do before my performances begin as I've been resting these pipes for a while but if you liked and loved me before, I think I'll be even better because I can feel that passion of mine rebuilding like a combustible flame...

I really look forward to seeing you again...

All the best,

Glenn Radcliffe (Mr Romantic)

Glenn is soon to be back !!!

Hello everyone... After a grueling four years performing around the world, I took some substantial time off.... Hopefully next year I will reemerge in Las Vegas.... In a month or so I will begin recording new CD's.... The main(and continuing) series will be entitled Mr Romantic (Vol 1,2,3, etc)... I will also record the Christmas album I promised you a while ago, as well as a Country Love album performed by a true Crooner (me), ha ha.... I think you will love this album....

My music will be specifically about the music I have learned to love over my life and will be a sexy and romantic fusion of Jazz, Pop, Old School R&B, Show, Brazilian and any song from any genre that I love to sing....

Unless you have heard me live, you probably are not aware of my unique combinations of music from many different eras, genres and styles....

My album "Falling Into You" was made specifically for all of my Cruise Ship audiences and although this work reflects a part of me that I love (and thanks to so many of you that purchased and love it too) it doesn't nearly approximate my many different song stylings.... My Mr Romantic series will be recorded for a much wider demographic and if you are romantic, well, you'll love my tune weaving on these albums....

I have learned from performing live so much, just what you love.... And I promise you, you will love these recordings...

Well I have much to do to relocate to Las Vegas.... I've already expended much energy relocating out of Los Angeles for different reflections and perspectives.... And now I must sell this beautiful waterfront home in an unusual location (for me) which I chose for rest, recuperation, reflection and recharging... Let's hope, in view of the present real estate environment, the God's of expediency and fortune are shining down on me so that I can get to Las Vegas next year and get back to doing what I love to do....

Thanks to the many emails and well wishes from many of you... I know you must have thought I dropped off the end of the earth, but I'll be back soon....
